Secret Sundays: Always Check Upstairs

By: Amy Kawa

In this newest series to the Dreams on Main Street lineup, we will provide a Disney insider secret each week that we feel will enhance your Disney vacation experience and/or the planning process leading up to your actual vacation.  Big or small, these secrets are things we have found extremely useful and use on each and every one of our vacations.  Some may be more “secret-y” and/or random than others, but I promise, they’re all true and valuable.

Dreamers Secret Sunday: Always Check Upstairs!

Quick service dining during the busiest times of the day (12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. for lunch and 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for dinner) can be a dangerous thing.  Lines of people at the registers are then followed by mobs of people taking their trays to find a seat to enjoy their meals.

When there is a seemingly filled main dining floor, there is often a secondary seating area in a quiet, more spacious setting, waiting around the corner or on a second floor… upstairs!

Pinocchio’s Village Haus (MK), Columbia Harbour House (MK), and PizzeRizzo (DHS) all have upstairs dining areas, while Pecos Bill’s (MK), Sleep Hollow (MK), Flame Tree Barbecue (DAK), the Yorkshire County Fish Shoppe (EP), and La Cantina de San Angel (EP) all have seating areas off the beaten path that also offer that oasis in a sea of crazy that can be quick service dining.

From all of these great options, our favorite secret spot to grab a quick service meal is at Columbia Harbour House in the Magic Kingdom.  As soon as you get your order, head right up those stairs you see when you walk in, and you’ll find a much more spacious eating area than what you can find downstairs.  Plus, the whole colonial theming of the restaurant, located in Liberty Square, is much more prevalent with awesome details in the upstairs dining area.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE…. order an Anchors Aweigh Sandwich, Lobster Roll, or some Clam Chowder, sit back, relax, and listen for that dinner bell!
