Dreamer Amy’s Take:

  • I have waited 14 long years to get more of my favorite Pixar movie (or at least it was until Inside Out came out).  The Parr Family returns to our lives this June, and it has been a long, long time until I have been this excited to see a movie in theaters.
  • I also can’t get enough of the Christopher Robin trailer! Winnie the Pooh’s voice just makes you feel at home, and Ewan McGregor is one of the most underrated actors of our generation, so I can’t wait to see what he will do as the film’s titular character.  Oh… and quick plug here – Hayley Attwell plays Christopher Robin’s wife in this film, so if there weren’t already 8,797 reasons to see this movie, add Agent Carter to that list as well.
  • Who doesn’t want more Ralph and Vanellope in their lives?!  Vanellope is one of the most underrated Disney heroines: no-nonsense, funny, clever, brave, accepting, and determined.  I’m in.
  • Mary Poppins... Oh boy.  I LOVE Emily Blunt.  I LOVE Lin-Manuel Miranda.  I have to accept that this interpretation of the story is DIFFERENT from Julie Andrews’.  I have tempered expectations, but am still excited for this film.
  • I know nothing about Captain Marvel except that she is a woman.  That’s all I need.  Sign me up, especially after that scene in Infinity War where Black Widow and Okoye come to Scarlet Witch’s rescue.  Bring on the girl power… and Brie Larson.
  • Tim Burton scares me, so I hope this Dumbo doesn’t.
  • I like penguins, but have yet to see a Disney Nature film.  I doubt that trend will be broken with this latest installment in the series.
  • I am already losing sleep over who will die in Avengers 4.  Plus, if Cap and Peggy aren’t reunited with this “time stone thing,” I am going to be extremely angry given all of the money and time I have invested in these films.
  • No initial thoughts on the Aladdin remake. Stay tuned
  • I have been emotionally drained since the first time I see Toy Story 3.  Seriously.  I have never recovered.  While I love these characters like my own friends and want them in my life, I just think you couldn’t have written a better ending than “So long, partner.” (still sobbing)  Part of me wishes their stories ended in Bonnie’s front yard at the end of Toy Story 3.  However, I understand the monetary value of Buzz Lightyear and Woody and the importance of keeping their stories alive, especially given the development of Toy Story Land in Walt Disney World.  With Toy Story 4, I appreciate that the writers went back in time to fill in some gaps between Toy Story 2 and 3 and hold out hope that the emotional poignancy of Toy Story 3 isn’t lost after this newest installment.
  • The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie, so I am a little leery when it comes to adaptations of perfection.  However, Beyonce is in it, so who’s complaining?  Beyonce has joined the Disney family, so now, my Disney love affair is complete.  The recent success of the live adaptation of The Jungle Book also gives me hope.
  • Other thoughts to come on the movies slated for 2019…
