As Epcot continues its transformation, the longest running nighttime spectacular in the history of the Disney parks will come to an end next year. After nearly 20 years of dazzling guests, Epcot’s Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is scheduled to have its final show in the summer of 2019. Disney is hard at work coming up with another nighttime show to take Illuminations’ place to avoid any downtime on World Showcase Lagoon. The soundtrack for the new show is rumored to already be completed, so it’s fun steam ahead.
Dreamer Amy’s Take: Illuminations will always hold a special place in the hearts of every true Disney fan. However, even these fans must admit the technology used in the show is a bit dated. The projections on the globe have always been sketchy (at best), and as Disney has showed with Happily Ever After, they can do just about anything when it comes to nighttime spectaculars. So while I will continue to tear up every time the countries light up around World Showcase lagoon as the music builds in the current incarnation of Illuminations until summer 2019, I will also eagerly await what Disney has in store for Epcot as we grow closer to Disney’s big 50th anniversary. Those dang Imagineers have yet to let me down. (Just keep some of that Illuminations score for me, alright? It’s just so so so beautiful.)
